Minnesota Timberwolves: 3 early targets for the 2018 NBA Draft
Jontay Porter — Forward, Missouri:
Now of course, this pick is contingent on Porter declaring for the draft after his freshman year. With Michael Porter Jr. out for the year, Mizzou will need the contributions of Jontay Porter to stabilize a very young and talented squad. Jontay is a much different player than his brother, but he is an intriguing prospect in his own right. A freshman year from Porter could put him in the second round based off of potential alone.
Porter is a hair under seven feet tall. He is stocky at 240 pounds, and he is a big-bodied presence in the middle. Porter already uses his quickness to be a great shot-blocker. His nimble feet actually allow him to block jump shots on the perimeter as well. He would fit in Minnesota and might provide more upside than Gorgui Dieng in spot minutes for Karl-Anthony Towns. He would also make for an interesting hi-low offense with KAT.
Jontay Porter is a great left-handed forward, and he has a legit-15-foot jumper. He has flashed the ability to hit the college 3-pointer, and with his soft touch could one day be a decent NBA 3-point shooter. He knows how to cut and finish around the basket with tremendous efficiency too.

Minnesota’s frontcourt situation allows them to bring Porter along slowly. In the near future, Porter and 2017 first round pick Justin Patton could be quite the duo for Tom Thibodeau.
