The Philadelphia 76ers had some positive news to announce regarding top pick Markelle Fultz and the status of his shoulder injury.

The Philadelphia 76ers finally had some good news regarding the status of Markelle Fultz and his lingering shoulder injury. The No. 1 overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft hasn’t appeared in a game for the Sixers since Oct. 23 and has been sidelined indefinitely with soreness and scapular muscle imbalance in his right shoulder.

As of Sunday, Fultz is set to be re-evaluated in another 2-3 weeks after being seen by doctors. Fultz is progressing through the injury, which is a positive sign. The soreness in his shoulder has subsided, but the team still wants to give the injury time to heal.

The 76ers are in a good spot this season with a 9-7 record. They are currently the sixth-best team in the Eastern Conference with Ben Simmons and Joel Embiid leading the charge. Simmons and Embiid have been quite the force for the Sixers this season as they have won three of their last four games.

Simmons is averaging 18.7 points, 9.2 rebounds, 7.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game so far in his rookie campaign. Embiid is averaging 22.3 points, 10.9 rebounds, 3.4 assists and 1.9 blocks per game, picking up where he left off last season, except in better health.

Fultz has appeared in just four games for the Philadelphia 76ers this season. He posted averages of 6.0 points, 2.3 rebounds and 1.8 assists in 19.0 minutes per game for the Sixers.

Fultz’s status first came into question after his awkward free throw routine to start the season. He’s currently shooting 50 percent from the free throw line this season. After that, his 3-point shooting ability came into question, as he didn’t attempt a 3-pointer in any of the four appearances he made.

It will be interesting to see when Fultz is available as the team could certainly use his ability off the bench with the second unit. Since being sidelined on Oct. 23, Fultz has missed 12 games and counting. Philadelphia faces the Portland Trail Blazers on Wednesday night.
