Jonathan Simmons ($4,800)

Simmons has been one of the few role players to leave the San Antonio Spurs and thrive. He’s seen an increase in minutes with the Orlando Magic and taken advantage of it. Despite the increased role, today the deck is stacked for Simmons to have a big game.

Firstly, the Phoenix Suns have not played well defensively. The Suns rank third-to-last in defensive rating with109.2 points per 100 possessions. With Eric Bledsoe gone and an inexperienced bench unit, there should be plenty of points to go around.

On top of that, D.J. Augustin, (who is usually first off of the bench for them, guard-wise) is out today, giving more minutes to the remaining guards. When Payton missed a couple of games this season, we saw Jonathan Simmons actually play point guard for the team.

There’s a chance, due to injury, that Simmons may get some ball-handling possessions as well.
