9. Malik Monk, Charlotte Hornets

Last week: No. 6 (↓3)

Charlotte Hornets shooting guard Malik Monk is another player who took a hit in this week’s Rookie of the Year power rankings. The Hornets went 0-3 this week while Monk’s production was also down.

Monk averaged 9.7 points, 4.3 assists and 1.7 rebounds for the winless Hornets this week. He shot 36.7 percent from the floor and there were no heroic performances in the fourth quarter. Monk did break out for the second 20-point game of his career with 21 points against the New York Knicks on Tuesday night though.

He was 8-of-17 from the field and 5-for-13 from 3-point range off the bench. The Knicks outscored Charlotte 35-19 in the fourth quarter to steal a 118-113 victory in the end.

Right now, Monk is fourth on the team in points and third in assists per game as a rookie. He is still figuring out his role alongside veterans Kemba Walker and Dwight Howard. The more playing time he’s received, the better he’s performed.
