Assist percentage

During the 2016-17 NBA season, the Washington Wizards were 16th in the league in assist percentage, which is slightly below average. Per game, 57.7 percent of their points came off of assists. Through seven games of the 2017-18 NBA season, the Wizards rank ninth in the league in assist percentage. Currently 59.6 percent of their baskets come from assists.

The only playoff teams from last year that rank higher in assist percentage are the Golden State Warriors, Milwaukee Bucks and Boston Celtics. Much of the reasoning for the upswing between seasons may be from the inclusion of Tim Frazier and Jodie Meeks to the lineup. It’s no secret that the Wizards lacked depth last year, so to have two competent guards behind John Wall and Bradley Beal has been key.

Last year the Wizards’ assist percentage with John Wall off the court was 56.5 percent. This year their assist percentage is 60.3 percent — a pretty hefty increase from last year.
