Having only played seven games this season, analyzing the statistics of any team, including the Washington Wizards, is tough.

One fluke game at this stage of the season can drastically change a statistical category. This season, for instance, a lot of fluke games came from when the Phoenix Suns played teams and boosted their opponent’s defensive and offensive ratings to astronomical levels under Earl Watson. But you could also have played a few top five offenses early in the season and seem to be doing worse than a team might actually be.

Despite the small sample size, statistics can still be used to look at trends and where teams are starting to shift from their previous season. For instance, if a team has taken a drasticly different amount of 3-point shots per game in their first six games, we can generally assume that the team is making a concerted effort to shoot more (or less) 3s, and we can continue to see that trend grow throughout the season.

This article is dedicated to look at three stats that stand out from the start of the Washington Wizards’ 2017-18 season.
