Detroit Pistons shock the Clippers and Warriors on the road
The Warriors are not invincible
The Warriors are 4-3 and haven’t looked like the invincible team of years past. So far this season the defending champs have been plagued by ejections, drama and play worthy of mere humans. That’s great news for the loaded Western Conference but doesn’t really bode well for the East. The Eastern Conference doesn’t have a chance against the loaded Western Conference, right?
In the last 48 hours, the Detroit Pistons have decisively beat two of the top teams in the West.
The Warriors’ recent lapses on defense and ball-handling helped the Detroit Pistons take down the Splash Brothers. Darryl Matsuda of The Mercury News pointed out some of the Warriors’ lapses and weaknesses since the season started.
"“Turnovers are the recurring theme during Warriors games this season. Against Washington, Golden State added 18 to its season tally. They made the Wizards look like an offensive juggernaut in the first half. Washington shot 49.0 percent, including 11 of 17 (64.7 percent) from 3-point range. The big reason for the Wizards’ marksmanship was that most of their shots — especially the 3-pointers — were wide-open looks that the Warriors didn’t defend.”"
Apparently the Pistons’ head coach Stan Van Gundy read the Mercury News with his coffee Sunday morning. His team picked up where the Wizards left off. Thirty-six of the Pistons’ 115 points came from beyond the arc.
In addition to lapses in Golden State’s defensive strategy and turnovers, the Pistons shot more 3s than the Warriors. The Pistons shot 12-of-27 (44.4 percent) from 3-point land.
Last season the Detroit Pistons missed the playoffs after a disappointing, injury-plagued run. As of right now, the Pistons own the best record in the Eastern Conference.
