2. The Mavericks have a shooting slump to get themselves out of

It seems the Dallas Mavericks had a lot of moving parts to deal with in their season-opener and it showed in the end with a loss.

Dallas shot 45 total 3-pointers in the game as a team, compared to the 18 total 3-pointers the Hawks shot. That first number seems very excessive. Wesley Matthews had the best game by far, going 5-of-9 from the 3-point arc with 15 points, but he also had five turnovers.

Harrison Barnes was 3-of-13 from the field and 0-for-6 from 3-point range. Add Dirk’s 2-of-7 shooting from the 3-point line and you see the cause for concern.

The Mavericks took a lot of 3-point shots with nothing to show for it in Game 1 of the regular season. Rookie point guard Dennis Smith Jr. seemed to have his hands full all night with point guard Dennis Schroder as well.

In their next game against the Sacramento Kings on Friday, their shooting slump will be something to keep an eye on. They shot 44.2 percent from the field as a team in their loss to Atlanta, while the Hawks shot 51.1 percent.
