1. Lead Boston to the best record in the East

The immense popularity of Kyrie Irving, along with his propensity of scoring binges, has generated multiple All-Star selections. Only individual accolades aren’t the primary concern for Irving as he is just days away from making his regular season debut for Boston.

The Celtics posted the fourth-highest win total last season, claiming 53 victories — the most among any team in the Eastern Conference.

The lofty win total provided the team home-court advantage through the Eastern Conference Finals, only to immediately surrender it to the Cavaliers by dropping the first two games in the series at TD Garden.

Cleveland eventually closed out the series in Boston, advancing to the NBA Finals for the third consecutive year with a 135-102 victory in Game 5. Irving played a key role, pouring in 24 points, with four conversions from 3-point range and seven assists.

Boston believes the addition of Irving to the roster will be enough to once again finish with the best regular season record in the Eastern Conference and claim home-court advantage. If both instances occur, the Celtics will be in prime position to dethrone Cleveland as the top team in the Eastern Conference.
