3. Build a relationship with LaMarcus Aldridge

Although Gay won’t be a part of the starting lineup, he needs to build a relationship with all of the players on the team. The two he needs to the most are Kawhi Leonard and LaMarcus Aldridge. Since Gay will be playing with Aldridge more, the two need to be on the same page.

Leonard and Aldridge are the two All-Stars of the team. Gay needs to make sure he learns and understands how things are done in San Antonio. These two are the perfect players to learn from.

There is a chance that the Spurs will go with a small-ball lineup during some games. This means that Gay might play power forward and Aldridge would play the center position. If this happens, then it is crucial that these two understand their roles.

If they are able to establish their roles and build chemistry early in the season, this small-ball lineup will be great to have. With the NBA being faster paced, it is almost required to have one of these lineups in your arsenal.
