Phoenix Suns: 5 goals for Marquese Chriss in 2017-18
3. Shoot 36 percent from 3-point range
Chriss converted just 32.1 percent of his 2.7 long range attempts per game as a rookie, but there’s reason to believe he’ll be a better shooter from downtown than the numbers indicate.
Before the All-Star break, Chriss struggled from beyond the arc as most first-year players do, shooting just 29.7 percent from deep on 2.4 attempts per game. After All-Star Weekend, however, he ratcheted up his attempts to 3.4 per game, knocking them down at a respectable 36 percent clip.
That was just a 25-game sample size, but it’s a reasonable place to start in terms of improvement for year two. Phoenix doesn’t need Chriss to become a 3-point marksman at age 20, but if he can spread the floor with some semblance of consistency, that’ll do wonders for a team that ranked 27th in 3-point percentage last year.
As 3-point shooting becomes a bigger focus for this team moving forward, increasing his efficiency by four percentage points into more acceptable territory represents an attainable goal for Marquese Chriss.
