4. Starter for the All-Star Team

Maybe the All-Star game has become a bit of a popularity contest. Although it’s an exhibition game, it’s still not as competitive as it once was. But to make the All-Star Team is still an honor for Walker, and to start for the East would be an even greater honor.

The fans, media and players, vote to decide who gets the coveted starting-slot. NBA players are competitive to their core, and it’s great that their peers recognize them.

The reserves are chosen by the coaches. To be a reserve is still an honor, because it’s not so much a beauty pageant, since the NBA head coaches recognize your individual talent.

The starting line is comprised of two guards and three frontcourt players. Though Walker is on track to make the team again, his goal should be making the starting roster.

Last season, starting guards for the East were Kyrie Irving, DeMar DeRozan, and Jimmy Butler, so it’s possible that more than two guards can be chosen through the public voting.

Some players have celebrities tell the millions of followers to vote on their behalf. Of course, teams also provide a daily reminder to their fans to vote. But Walker should play in such a manner, that he’s not only respected among his peers, but that they also fear him.

Walker’s performance should speak for itself among his peers. That they don’t want to be the one who has to guard him. He should be respected not only in the East, but gain respect throughout the league as a premier point guard.

His goal should be an Eastern Conference starter for the All-Star game, because not only will that be a great achievement for himself, but it will be a source of pride for his team.

Walker has the accolades – earning his first All-Star nod last season, 2017 NBA Sportsmanship Award, and was named Co-Captain for Team World for NBA Africa Game 2017, this past summer. However, it wouldn’t hurt his pocketbook either, if he also made the All-Star game as a starter and even made an All-NBA team.
