Washington Wizards: 5 goals for Otto Porter Jr. in 2017-18
By Randy Porga
5. Remaining a threat from beyond the arc
While fellow teammates John Wall and Bradley Beal have the ability to hit from beyond the arc, Otto Porter sought to prove last season that it’s just one of his strengths. For his career, he is shooting 38.9 percent from downtown, but last season he improved to a career-high 43.4 percent.
The league average for 3-point shooting last year was 35.8 percent.
The Wizards did not qualify as a top-five team in 3-point percentage, finishing eighth overall, but Otto Porter can help get them there while he is still regarded to be the third scoring option next to Wall and Beal.
However, being a third option is not a knock on his level of talent by any means. Just four years into his career, he is now shooting with confidence from just about anywhere on the court.
His ability to knock down 3-pointers from the corner is more than just impressive. Last season, 40.2 percent of his long range shots came from the corner, where he converted 42.3 percent of his looks.
Should Porter continue to be as efficient as he is effective from beyond the arc, the Wizards can potentially become a top five 3-point shooting team this season.
