Philadelphia 76ers: 5 goals for J.J. Redick in 2017-18

2. Prepare for more late shot-clock attempts
This is an area in which Redick has not been proficient throughout his career, primarily due to his role as an off-the-ball threat on offense.
But with the lack of experienced playmakers on the Sixers roster, utilizing Redick as the shot clock is winding down seems like a logical move for head coach Brett Brown and his coaching staff.

Last season, Redick overall shot 13-of-27 from the field (48.1 percent) for the season with 0-4 seconds remaining on the shot clock. As a team, the Sixers shot 33.1 percent with 0-4 seconds remaining on the shot clock on 5.1 attempts per game.
One of the greatest culprits of the Sixers’ problems as the shot clock expired was first year center Joel Embiid. In 31 games, Embiid shot just 2-of-20 from the field in this time range. Another player to struggle mightily was point guard T.J. McConnell, who connected on just 10-of-41 from the field for a 24.4 percent return.
While the Sixers won’t be expecting Redick to exponentially increase his shooting volume late in the shot clock, it would nonetheless be a prudent move moving forward. And thus, if Redick is utilized more in such situations, it would likely further open things up for the likes of Embiid to create havoc in their own right.
