The annual release of the popular NBA 2K video game has an added twist with the release of their All-Time Philadelphia 76ers squad.

Despite their well-documented struggles of recent seasons, the Philadelphia 76ers have a rich and proud history dating back to their inception in the league. And Sixers fans are now able to relive their favorite players of yesteryear with the introduction of All-Time Teams in the soon-to-be released NBA 2K18 video game.

A source of great interest and discussion among players league-wide, the annual release of the NBA 2K series now has an even greater level of interest with this new added element. Combining past greats with current stars is a terrific initiative, and is sure to generate much discussion as to which franchise has the most impressive all-time roster.

The Sixers’ roster chosen by the producers of the game is as follows, with their corresponding rating:

To state the obvious, this is an incredibly impressive array of talent.

But while the likes of Hersey Hawkins and Aaron McKie were terrific servants of the Sixers for a number of years, at the same time it’s hard to even fathom a couple of the omissions.

Charles Barkley had eight stellar seasons in the City of Brotherly Love, was named an All-Star in six of those years, and was selected to the All-NBA First Team on four occasions during this time.. Overall, he averaged 23.3 points and 11.6 rebounds per game and was one of the most dominant players in the league. Unfortunately, Barkley does not want his likeness to be in the game.

The other head-scratching omission was center Moses Malone. While he was with the Sixers for just five seasons, his impact was profound. Averaging 21.0 points and 12.0 rebounds during this time, Malone was named an All-Star each year, Furthermore, he was named NBA Finals MVP in 1983 as the Sixers swept the Los Angeles Lakers 4-0 to capture NBA title.

More from Philadelphia 76ers

In terms of modern-day stars, three current players appear on the roster, with Joel Embiid the only one on the current Sixers’ roster. The other two are Jrue Holiday of the New Orleans Pelicans, and Andre Iguodala of the Golden State Warriors. Holiday was named an All-Star in his last season for the Sixers in 2013, while Iguodala has gone onto win two NBA titles with the Warriors, and was named NBA Finals MVP in 2015.

But without doubt, the three most recognizable players from the list — Allen Iverson, Julius Erving and Wilt Chamberlain — also possess the highest ratings. And all three couldn’t have been more vastly different in their stature and physical appearance.

Iverson was the diminutive guard, who, despite being listed at 6’0″, defied his clear size disadvantage, combining his unique skill-set and insatiable desire to compete to become of the premier players of his era. Named NBA MVP in 2001, Iverson was an 11-time All-Star whose most impressive accomplishment was leading an unheralded Sixers team all the way to the NBA Finals, only to fall short to the Lakers in five games.

On the other hand, Erving’s athleticism and natural grace made him one of the most attractive players of all-time, not just in his era. Named an All-Star in each of his 11 seasons in Philadelphia, Erving was named NBA MVP in 1981, and from a video game perspective, was one of the greatest in-game dunkers of all time.

And then there’s Chamberlain, a 7’1″ Goliath whose four seasons with the Sixers produced the incomparable numbers of 27.6 points and 23.9 rebounds per game. Chamberlain won the NBA MVP award on four occasions, once with the Sixers, with his most amazing individual accomplishment being his 100-point performance as a member of the Philadelphia Warriors.
