Reason 1: Tom Thibodeau does not want to move Wiggins

It is clear that Minnesota Timberwolves head coach Tom Thibodeau wants to keep his two young stars Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins. Both players have the potential to be top players at their position in the coming years.

Despite that, Wiggins would be at the forefront of a potential trade for Kyrie Irving, both for salary-matching purposes and talent equivalence. Jeff Teague would be another potential piece, but he cannot be traded until Dec. 15. Here is why a Wiggins trade that does not make sense for the Wolves.

The Timberwolves were not offering Wiggins to acquire Jimmy Butler, who is a much better overall player than Kyrie Irving and a better fit for Thibodeau’s style. If they were not willing to part ways with him for Butler, they will not move the 22-year-old for a player worse than Butler.

If Thibodeau gets Wiggins playing decent defense this upcoming season, the criticism of Wiggins will reduce greatly. Offensively Wiggins is already performing at a high level, finishing the 2016-17 season 16th in the NBA in points per game.  It is too early to give up on a talented young player based on something that can be fixed easily.
