Reason 2: They would have to include a bench player

To make the trade work and appealing to the Cavaliers, the Minnesota Timberwolves would likely have to include a bench player. This is a move the Timberwolves can not afford to do. Last season their bench was one of the worst in the NBA. If they trade away a key player from their bench, they will fall right back into that trap.

Gorgui Dieng‘s name has popped up as a potential trade piece with Andrew Wiggins. Dieng started in all 82 games for the Wolves last year and is great at defense and rebounding. Those are two things that Kyrie Irving is not going to contribute to in any way.

With the addition of Taj Gibson, Dieng is set to have a very important role either starting or coming off the bench this upcoming season. If the Wolves send Dieng away in a trade they will create a large void in their team.
