Atlanta Hawks: 5 takeaways from 2017 NBA Summer League
3. Tyler Dorsey is likely bound for the G-League
The Atlanta Hawks chose Tyler Dorsey with the 41st overall pick of the 2017 NBA Draft in the hopes he could provide some long range shooting as a backup point guard.
In college, Dorsey was one of the most prolific shooters from beyond the arc at Oregon, as he converted 2.3 shots from three-point range at a 42.3 percent clip.
During his brief stint at the NBA Summer League, limited to just three games because of a sprained right ankle, Dorsey struggled to convert shots from anywhere on the floor.
Dorsey missed both of his attempts from three-point range, connected on just 4-of-11 shot attempts and even bricked each of his three shots at the foul line.
The 6’4″ guard averaged 2.7 points per game on 36.4 percent shooting from the field and failed to record a single assist.
Dorsey signed a guaranteed two-year deal for the league minimum but will likely spend his time with Atlanta in training camp fighting for a roster spot.
Even though the Hawks have just two point guards on the roster, Dorsey appears to be slated to spend a majority of his time playing in the G-League during his rookie year.
