5. Washington Wizards

The Washington Wizards could very well sign Bojan Bogdanovic, but they may not keep him very long. Although he found success in Washington this past season, the team may not be able to afford him while also signing Otto Porter Jr. to a max deal.

As mentioned earlier, the Wizards have already made a qualifying offer to Bogdanovic, but it may not be enough to keep him as he could demand more from another squad.

Washington has already been busy during the free agency period, signing guard Jodie Meeks and forward Mike Scott to multi-year deals. They’re currently considering dealing Bogdanovic in a potential sign-and-trade deal in hopes of getting their traded player exception back.

The Wizards are considering this option for two reasons:

  1. They could use the cap space to sign Otto Porter to a max deal.
  2. A traded player exception allows them more flexibility to add more bench depth

Washington used their TPE to acquire backup point guard Tim Frazier from the New Orleans Pelicans. The move should help preserve John Wall and his abilities in the long run.

As the Washington Wizards look to continue to improve, getting the most out of Bogdanovic could allow them to benefit from a sign-and-trade deal.
