Vince Carter: 1 year, $8 million (Sacramento Kings)

Thanks to the draft, the Sacramento Kings have a promising young core of De’Aaron Fox, Justin Jackson, Harry Giles, Willie Cauley-Stein, Skal Labissiere and Buddy Hield. Now, thanks to free agency, they’ve got veterans like George Hill, Zach Randolph and Vince Carter to guide the youth movement.

On a cheap one-year deal for Vinsanity, the Kings bring in a 40-year-old albeit still effective reserve who shot 37.8 percent from three-point range last year.

The value of these signings revolves around one central question though: Will the Kings sacrifice the youngsters’ development in a fruitless playoff chase by catering to Hill and two veterans who played under Dave Joerger in Memphis? Or are these older but still effective vets simply meant to mentor the youth while putting the team on a slightly more competitive trajectory?
