Ramon Sessions: 1 year, $2.3 million (New York Knicks)

Not re-signing Derrick Rose was the right play for the New York Knicks, but when high-profile names like Jrue Holiday, Kyle Lowry, Chris Paul, Patty Mills, Jeff Teague and George Hill all went off the board in a hurry, the team needed an established point guard to help ease rookie Frank Ntilikina into the action.

Ramon Sessions isn’t that acquisition, but at the very least, Knicks fans can take comfort in their latest free agency addition being able to mentor Ntilikina and the recently re-signed Ron Baker — all without having to worry about him stealing their minutes.

The Knicks really could’ve done better with a stop-gap point guard to mentor a combo guard like Ntilikina, but Sessions is a quality backup who won’t impede his progress and will serve well on a cheap deal.
