Los Angeles Clippers: 25 Best Players To Play For The Clippers
By Phil Watson
After averaging nearly 23 points and more than 14 rebounds per game as a sophomore at Oklahoma, Blake Griffin was the consensus national player of the year and declared himself eligible for the draft.
He was taken first overall by the Los Angeles Clippers in the 2009 NBA Draft.
A fractured kneecap in the final preseason game before the 2009-10 season wiped out what would have been his rookie year, but he returned with a vengeance to earn Rookie of the Year honors in 2010-11.
He is also a five-time All-Star and four-time All-NBA selection with the Clippers, finishing third in the MVP voting in 2013-14.
He was fourth in the league in rebounding as a rookie in 2010-11.
But 2015-16 was a struggle on and off the court. Griffin missed 47 games, first with a quadriceps tear and then later with a broken hand sustained in an off-court incident.
He returned in time for the playoffs, but re-injured the quad in Game 4 of L.A.’s first-round series with the Portland Trail Blazers and missed the rest of the series.
In 35 games, Griffin averaged 21.4 points, 8.4 rebounds and 4.9 assists in 33.4 minutes per game on .499/6-for-18/.727 shooting.
In six seasons in Los Angeles, Griffin is averaging 21.5 points, 9.6rebounds, 4.0 assists and 1.0 steals in 35.3 minutes per game, shooting .521/.271/.661.
Griffin is signed with the Clippers through 2016-17, with a player option for 2017-18.
He is 34th in NBA history with an average of 21.5 points per game.
