Los Angeles Clippers: 25 Best Players To Play For The Clippers
By Phil Watson
The Los Angeles Clippers grabbed a rising star on draft night in June 2001 when they acquired Elton Brand from the Chicago Bulls in exchange for Brian Skinner and the rights to second overall pick Tyson Chandler.
Brand was a two-time All-Star for the Clippers and was an All-NBA selection in 2005-06.
He was second in the NBA in field-goal percentage and fifth in rebounding in 2001-02 and placed fourth in the league in blocks in 2002-03 and fifth in that category in 2005-06, but was sidelined for most of the 2007-08 season with an Achilles injury.
He left L.A. in July 2008 to sign as a free agent with the Philadelphia 76ers.
In seven seasons in Los Angeles, Brand averaged 20.3 points, 10.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.3 blocks and 1.0 steals in 38.3 minutes per game, shooting .514/2-for-9/.752.
Brand was the consensus player of the year as a sophomore at Duke, averaging 17.7 points and 9.8 rebounds per game while leading the Blue Devils to the national championship game. He opted to enter the draft and give up his final two years of eligibility.
Brand was the first overall pick by the Bulls in the 1999 NBA Draft and was named Rookie of the Year in 1999-2000.
Waived by Philadelphia in July 2012 under the amnesty provision, Brand signed the following day with the Dallas Mavericks. In July 2013, he signed with the Atlanta Hawks and announced his retirement in August 2015.
However, he returned to the 76ers on Jan. 4, 2016. He played in 17 games, starting one, and averaged 4.1 points and 3.7 rebounds in 13.2 minutes per game on .431/0-for-1/8-for-9 shooting.
He is 20th in NBA history with 1,828 blocked shots and 36th with an average of 1.7 blocks per game.
