As a junior at Kansas State, Rolando Blackman was an All-American and he averaged 15.0 points per game as a senior while helping the Wildcats to a surprising Elite Eight appearance.

The Dallas Mavericks picked the shooting guard with the ninth overall selection in the 1981 NBA Draft.

By early in his second season, he was the full-time starter at the off guard for Dallas. He was a four-time All-Star for the Mavericks, including three trips in a row from 1985-87.

Blackman was fourth in the NBA in free-throw shooting in 1991-92.

He was a fixture with the Mavericks as they rose from expansion club to playoff contender and was a 20-point-a-game scorer three times.

His stint in Dallas ended in June 1992, when he was traded to the New York Knicks in exchange for a first-round pick in 1995.

In 11 seasons with the Mavericks, Blackman averaged 19.2 points, 3.6 rebounds and 3.2 assists in 34.3 minutes per game, shooting .497/.329/.840.

Blackman played two more years with the Knicks, never getting off the bench in the 1994 NBA Finals, before he was waived in July 1994.

He spent three years playing in Europe—a season each in Greece, Italy and France—before retiring in 1997.

His No. 22 jersey was retired by the Mavericks in March 2000.
