The Mavericks took the big point guard with the second overall pick in the 1994 NBA Draft.

He shared Rookie of the Year honors with Grant Hill of the Detroit Pistons in 1994-95 and was an All-Star in 1996, when he was second in the NBA in assists and fourth in steals.

But in December 1996, Kidd was dealt with Loren Meyer and Tony Dumas to the Phoenix Suns in exchange for Michael Finley, Sam Cassell, A.C. Green and a second-round pick in 1998.

Kidd returned to the Mavericks in February 2008 from the New Jersey Nets along with Antoine Wright and Malik Allen in exchange for Devin Harris, DeSagana Diop, Trenton Hassell, Maurice Ager, Keith Van Horn and first-round picks in 2008 and 2010.

Kidd made the All-Star Game in 2010 with Dallas and finished fourth in assists in 2007-08 and fifth in both 2008-09 and 2009-10, also finishing third in steals in 2008-09 and fifth in 2009-10.

He also quarterbacked the Mavericks team that won the 2011 NBA championship, averaging 7.7 points, 6.3 assists, 4.5 rebounds and 1.2 steals in 37.4 minutes per game, shooting .389/.429/6-for-8 in the six-game victory over the Miami Heat.

He left Dallas the final time in July 2012 to sign with the New York Knicks.

In parts of eight seasons with the Mavericks, Kidd averaged 10.5 points, 8.4 assists, 5.5 rebounds and 1.9 steals in 34.6 minutes per game, shooting .391/.363/.738.

Kidd was a three-time All-Star in Phoenix, also earning three straight All-NBA and All-Defensive nods and finishing fifth in the MVP race in 1998-99. That season, he was second in the NBA in minutes per game while leading the league in assists and placing fourth in steals.

He also led the league in assists in 1999-2000 and 2000-01 while with the Suns.

Traded to the Nets in July 2001, Kidd was named an All-Star five times with the Nets, earning six All-NBA nods and eight All-Defensive selections on the way.

Kidd led the NBA in assists in 2002-03 and 2003-04 and was second in the MVP voting in 2001-02. He led New Jersey to back-to-back NBA Finals appearances in 2002 and 2003, as well.

He retired after the 2012-13 season and was named coach of the Brooklyn Nets, where he remained just one year before he was traded to the Milwaukee Bucks to be their coach.

In three seasons as an NBA coach, Kidd is 118-128 in the regular season and 7-11 in the playoffs.

Kidd is eighth in NBA history with 1,391 games, ninth with an average of 8.7 assists per game, fourth with 50,111 minutes played, fifth with 1,988 3-pointers, second with 12,091 assists and 2,684 steals, 43rd with an average of 36 minutes per game and 18th with an average of 1.9 steals per game.
