  • College: New Mexico State (undrafted in 2010)

Jonathan Gibson is perhaps the most intriguing player that will be competing for a roster spot come training camp. With a three-year minimum deal (including a fully guaranteed first year), Gibson has obviously gotten the team’s attention.

He broke out this summer while playing for the Mavs’ summer league team in Las Vegas by dropping 30 points against the Miami Heat and 26 points against the Boston Celtics.

More from Hoops Habit

As a point guard, Gibson’s best play comes on the offensive end of the floor. He is great at driving the lane and taking contact, but he also has a hot hand, as he looks automatic at times when shooting mid-range jumpers.

Gibson likes to live behind the line, too, and has great success shooting the three ball.

But the fact that he is a point guard means it will be tough to find a spot on the roster this season. The Mavs already have Deron Williams, Devin Harris and J.J. Barea at the point guard position. Plus, there’s also guys like Seth Curry who could get some time there.

In my opinion, Gibson stands as the best player to make the roster out of the ones mentioned in this article. If he is able to expand his game to shooting guard or prove that he can consistently be a reliable scorer, he’ll find himself spending a lot of time in Dallas.
