No. 5: Daryl Morey

The Houston Rockets were on a dream run during the 2014-15 season. Despite All-Star center Dwight Howard missing 41 games, James Harden carried the team to the second seed with a 56-26 record.

The Rockets were playing winning basketball but Barkley wasn’t impressed. During Houston’s 127-118 road victory in Phoenix, Barkley ripped both teams for playing lackluster defense.

Soon after Daryl Morey took a shot at Barkley on Twitter, the TNT analyst unleashed on the general manager of the Rockets.

“I’m not worried about Daryl Morey. He’s one of those idiots who believe in analytics. I’ve always believed analytics were crap. I wouldn’t know Daryl Morey if he walked in this room right now.”

Barkley went as far as to compare Morey to high school geeks who never got the girls.

“All these guys who run these organizations who talk about analytics, they have one thing in common. They’re a bunch of guys who never played the game and they never got the girls in high school and they just want to get in the game.”

Kenny Smith tried to educate Barkley on the importance of analytics in the modern day basketball and why it has repeatedly proven to be integral component of winning teams. But Barkley wasn’t willing to listen.

A few days later, ESPN studio host Keith Olbermann referred to Barkley as “an idiot” for failing to comprehend the meaning of analytics.

“Chuck’s an idiot. See, Chuck, you use analytics, you just misremember them. Every statistic is an analytic…Free throw percentage, rebounds, touches, assists—analytics! So, Chuck, shut up! You lost! You are relying on analytics right now.”

Earlier this year, Barkley apologized to the Rockets front office and coaching staff.
