5. New Orleans Pelicans

The New Orleans Pelicans have a great deal of talent on the roster already. Jrue Holiday is an All-Star point guard, Tyreke Evans is a former Rookie of the Year, Buddy Hield is a lights-out shooter, and Anthony Davis is as close as one can come to superstardom.

Evans is an outstanding ball-handler and quality all-around playmaker, but Rudy Gay can replace him in the starting lineup as an athletic slasher who can actually shoot.

As previously alluded to, Gay has converted better than 35 percent of his 3-point field goals over the past two seasons. He’s done so with some quality point guards, but there’s no reason to believe that there would be a drop-off with Holiday running point.

With Gay slashing and shooting, and Davis posting his nightly 20-to-25 points, the Pelicans’ offense can flourish under Alvin Gentry.

The issue for the Pelicans is that Evans is the most likely player to be moved in this scenario. That’d normally play out fine, but Evans already played for the Kings—a union that ended with his being traded for Greivis Vasquez.

If both sides are interested, then this may work out fine; just don’t hold your breath on Evans returning to Sacramento.
