NBA Trade Rumors: Teams That Should Target Rudy Gay
Honorable Mention: Miami Heat
The Miami Heat have been dealt a hand that no one in Wade County ever expected to receive. After 13 years in Miami, franchise player Dwyane Wade has left the Heat to return to his hometown Chicago Bulls.
Given Miami’s obvious need for a perimeter scoring threat, landing Rudy Gay could be a wise endeavor on Pat Riley‘s behalf.
Along with losing Wade, the Heat also lost starting small forward Luol Deng to the Los Angeles Lakers. Deng moved over to play the 4 once Miami acquired Joe Johnson, but even Johnson was lost to the Utah Jazz.
Aside from Goran Dragic, Miami’s entire starting perimeter has been gutted in just a week’s time of free agency.
By adding Gay to a roster that already includes Dragic, Justise Winslow, and Hassan Whiteside, Miami would be relevant again. Gay can alleviate some of the burden offensively, and Erik Spoelstra is the perfect coach to motivate him on defense.
The issue, of course, is that Miami would have to trade one of the players it covets just to land Gay via trade.
