3. Re-Sign Chandler Parsons

While the baton is being readied to be passed over, Nowitzki is not quite ready to pass it on yet. The next anointed player who is said to be the future for this Dallas Mavericks basketball team, Chandler Parsons.

More from Dallas Mavericks

Parsons had a steady season last year, in his 61 games before his season was shut down with a knee issue he averaged 29.5 minutes, 13.7 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.8 assists. I think that these numbers are quite respectable for the next franchise player if the current one is still around.

Parsons has opted out of his player option worth $16 million to potentially find a max offer. Dallas has the cap room to re-sign him for a max contract but so do many other teams.

By the end of next season Nowitzki’s body might start to struggle a little more after another grinding season so Dallas need to be in a position to have Parsons ready to take over.

It is vital for Dallas to make sure that they manage to sign a good center in this free agency period so that Parsons feels going forward that Dallas will have a good chance of making it out of the first round of the Playoffs next year.

While Parsons is not on the same level as Kevin Durant and LeBron James in terms of their game dominance, he is a glue like player with a more evenly spread team around him to lead so will command good money.
