So the Chicago Buls finally did it, they traded their brilliant but oft-injured former MVP point guard, Derrick Rose. They sent him to the New York Knicks with Justin Holiday and got back Robin Lopez, Jerian Grant and Jose Calderon.

I have to admit I am strongly against Chicago starting Calderon this year. He is a tremendous distributor, I love his offense. His defense is enough to make me cringe.

The second big news that came out of Chicago was that Pau Gasol had opted out of his $7.7 million player option with Chicago.

My guess is that Gasol has seen the writing on the wall and at the age of 35, probably would prefer the chance at winning rather than helping a team through a rebuild, which is unfortunately where the Chicago Bulls find themselves.

The third bit of news that came out of Chicago was that they had traded big Australian Cameron Bairstow to Detroit for guard Spencer Dinwiddie.

Chicago drafted well. With the 14th pick they selected

Denzel Valentine

, a 6-foot-5 shooting guard out of Michigan State has a tremendous ability to create shots for others. He has a good shot from deep and will hopefully help the team transition away from Derrick Rose.

The knock on Valentine is his knees. Lets hope for Chicago’s sake they hold out for a good long career.

For their second-round pick, Chicago got a steal with Paul Zipser from Germany at pick No. 48. Zipser is a 6-foot-8 small forward who in fairness will probably not star in the league.

He can shoot, is incredibly athletic and will no doubt play a role for the Bulls really well.
