While the Pelicans have a quality starter in
Jrue Holiday, but health has been a major concern from him and a case can be made for Rubio being the better player. Competition is always a healthy thing and the length of Holiday can allow the Pelicans to run lineups with two point guards.
A three-guard rotation of Rubio, Holiday and Buddy Hield could be a lot of fun for the Pelicans.
The other factor is that Holiday only has one year left on his contract, while Rubio is on a very affordable deal for the next three seasons.
It’s not the most straightforward situation and it’s possible that Holiday would be included in a deal with Minnesota to be a temporary mentor for Dunn until he is ready to take over.
But even if he stays, this would be a quality landing spot for Rubio to run pick and rolls with Anthony Davis and help the Pelicans get back to glory.
