5. Thon Maker

Will Thon Maker, one of the most controversial candidates of the 2016 NBA Draft, drop all the way to No. 34 in the second round? Probably not. But given the unpredictability of this draft outside the top two prospects, why not dream big? (Literally.)

Maker may not be suiting up for Arizona State University this season, but if he’s still on the board when the Suns select at No. 34, they have to at least consider bringing him on to play for the other major basketball team in the greater Phoenix area.

As a lanky 7’1″ big man, Maker has the physical attributes of a center, but thanks to his impressive shooting and fluid strides, his skills are more tailored for the power forward spot. He’s skinny, but he’s tough, can knock down three-pointers and could be an excellent defender, shot-blocker and rebounder as he continues to bulk up.

That will take time and a ton of effort, which will be essential for him to compete at the next level because of his skinny frame. He’s definitely a project, but if the Suns trade a few of their picks or use them on draft-and-stash players, perhaps there’d be a place for a player with such a high ceiling like Maker.
