A Gifted Scorer

Jamal Murray is the newest member join the long list of freshman coming out of the University of Kentucky that will be coveted draft prospect. The 19-year-old is one of the top pure scorers this draft has to offer.

As a freshman, Murray averaged 20 points per game on 45.4 percent shooting from the field and 40.8 percent from three, which helped him get selected as a third-team All-America.

At 6-foot-4, he will be able to play alongside point guard Ricky Rubio for stretches if the Timberwolves decide to call Murray’s name on draft night. His ability to make plays and finish in the open court compliments the Timberwolves’ young roster.

During his time at Kentucky, fans saw another aspect to his game once point guard Tyler Ulis took control of running the offense. Murray showed ability to work off the ball impressively by coming off screens and either shooting immediately or curling and finishing in the paint.

His presence around the three-point line would demand the defense’s attention, but his own attention defensively is an area that Murray has to improve on. Last season, there were many times where he would lose his focus once his man gave up the ball.

In the NBA, a split second of being unfocused will result in dunk for the opposition.
