Despite having a remarkable regular season in which they set a franchise record with 67 wins in a season and went 40-1 at home, the San Antonio Spurs‘ championship hopes met an early and ugly demise at the hands of the Oklahoma City Thunder Thursday night.

A team that looked incredibly dominant at times was dominated in the first half by a younger and hungrier Thunder squad and, despite fighting back to make the game close in the final moments, were ultimately ousted from the playoffs in a 113-99 loss that was one of the more deflating defeats the franchise has ever suffered. What’s even worse was that the loss was one of three consecutive ones the team suffered to close out the series.

An apparent factor in the Spurs’ early exit was the lack of effective play from their aged Big Three of Tim Duncan, Manu Ginobili and Tony Parker. The trio was more of an invisible act in the series as they only averaged a miniscule 23.3 points per game combined through six games.

More from San Antonio Spurs

In effect, the loss marked the end of an era as the once ageless triumvirate will likely never be as dynamic as they once were, whether Duncan and/or Ginobili retire this offseason or not.

Luckily, the Spurs enter yet another summer with the possibility to create plenty of cap space and be a major player in free agency.

This year, the market is once again ripe with talent and players who would undoubtedly help the Spurs get younger while also maintaining a bit of experience to make them competitive and help them continue contending for championships in the near and distant future.

There are several players that fit the Spurs’ mold of quiet professionalism and the team should have quite the wish list of players to acquire this summer.

Without further adieu, here are four free agents that the Spurs should look to lure to San Antonio this offseason.
