NBA: Top 10 Coaching Candidates
Tom Thibodeau
Teams Coached: Chicago Bulls (2010-15)
Career Record: 255-139 (.647)
Postseason(s) and Record: 5 appearances, 23-28 (.451)
Tom Thibodeau is a defensive-minded head coach that had great success with the Chicago Bulls. He led the franchise to five playoff appearances in as many seasons as the head man. He may be best-known for the job he did without star point guard Derrick Rose (knees) during the 2012-13 and 2013-14 seasons in leading the Bulls to playoff appearances in both seasons.
Thibodeau, 58, was an assistant under Jeff Van Gundy in both New York and Houston. While Thibodeau is known as a defensive specialist, Van Gundy was drawn to Thibodeau’s “innovative offensive sets” and “player development skills”, according to Boston.com’s Jackie MacMullan.
Thibodeau played a crucial part in the development of centers Yao Ming and Joakim Noah. The Timberwolves appear to be a good fit with an already great center in rookie Karl-Anthony Towns. He has been linked to that job, along with Van Gundy, according to Yahoo!’s Wojnarowski.
Thibodeau’s will likely be in the mix for any job he wants, but whether he lands every offer is based on the franchise’s perspective.
