The Toronto Raptors are in the process of completing one of the greatest seasons in franchise history. Toronto won 56 games, which is the highest win total in team history, and did so while playing above-.500 basketball against both the Eastern and Western Conferences.

Kyle Lowry deservedly receives praise for his long underrated efforts, but the Raptors would not be this great without DeMar DeRozan.

DeRozan set new career-best averages in points and assists, and shot a career-high 33.8 percent from beyond the arc. He also got to the free throw line more often than ever before, which played an instrumental role in his developing into the star he’s become.

DeRozan is settling less and attacking more, and that’s a formula for success.

DeRozan led the league in points via drives per game, and ranked No. 3 in free throw attempts. He tied Russell Westbrook for No. 8 in the association in scoring, shot a solid 44.6 percent from the field, and was far more willing to pass out of driving situations.

DeRozan isn’t a perfect player, but he’s made significant progress from where he used to be.
