Toronto Raptors, 1999-2000
Record: 47-35
Lost in Eastern Conference quarterfinals

The Toronto Raptors surged into relevance at the turn of the millennium behind the strength of cousins Vince Carter and Tracy McGrady. The Raptors’ fifth season in the NBA was also their first in the playoffs and it was the first season where they grabbed league-wide attention.

Carter followed up a strong rookie season in 1998-99 with a phenomenal sophomore season in 1999-2000, averaging 25.7 points per game, 5.8 rebounds and 3.9 assists. He also shot 46.5 percent from the field. Rookie McGrady added 15.4 points and 6.3 rebounds per game.

The single biggest moment that fans will glean from the 1999-2000 season for the Raptors is almost certainly the Slam Dunk Competition, which Carter won by a landslide.

While the Raptors made the playoffs, they didn’t win a playoff game until the following season, as they were swept by the New York Knicks in three straight games.
