Boston Celtics, 1985-86
Record: 67-15
Won NBA championship

The Boston Celtics are one of the premier franchises in the history of the NBA, so narrowing down the list of championship seasons to one was challenging. That said, one season does stand apart from the rest, and that is the 1985-86 iteration of the Boston Celtics.

The 85-86 Celtics were led by Larry Bird, who averaged a stellar 25.8 points, 9.8 rebounds and 6.8 assists per game on shooting splits of .496/.423/.896. This team also featured Kevin McHale, who averaged 21.3 points and 8.1 rebounds, Robert Parish, Dennis Johnson and Danny Ainge.

The Celtics ripped through the NBA playoffs that year, sweeping Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the first round, beating the Atlanta Hawks 4-1 in the semifinals, the Milwaukee Bucks 4-0 in the conference finals and finishing off the Houston Rockets in six games in the NBA Finals.

Bird won all the awards he could get his hands on that season, winning AP Athlete of the Year, NBA MVP, Finals MVP, and was named to the All-NBA First Team. In addition, McHale was named to the All-NBA Defensive First Team,  Johnson was named to the All-NBA Defensive Second Team, and Bill Walton won Sixth Man of the Year.
