Houston Rockets, 1993-94
Record: 58-24
Won NBA championship

The Houston Rockets were the biggest beneficiary of Michael Jordan’s retirement in the middle of the 1990s. The only team to taste glory between the 1991-98 seasons other than the Chicago Bulls, the Rockets were certainly more than deserving of their back-to-back titles.

They were led by the legendary Hakeem Olajuwon, one of the best big men in NBA history. Olajuwon averaged a staggering 27.3 points, 11.9 rebounds and 3.7 blocks per game en route to the NBA MVP award. “The Dream” also won the NBA Finals MVP Award (averaging 28.9 points and 11 rebounds per game in the playoffs) and was named the Defensive Player of the Year.

He was also named to the All-NBA First Team and the All-Defensive First Team.

The Rockets followed up this championship run with a second title in 1994-95, but nothing ever replaces your first time, and it cemented Olajuwon’s place in NBA lore.
