Nos. 32-27

32. Joe Young — Mighty Joe Young! The Indiana Pacers‘ rookie has seen limited opportunity thus far, and his reputation as a microwave scorer off the bench has been dialed back down with him shooting 39.2 percent from the field and 25 percent from downtown. But Young has a bright future, and is averaging 4.0 points in only 9.6 minutes per game over 35 appearances.

31. K.J. McDaniels — K.J. McDaniels only recently earned playing time for the Houston Rockets, but he’s made the most of it, averaging 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14.3 minutes per game over his last four games. If this is the beginning of his coming-out party, we could see him climb up this list quickly despite his underwhelming season averages (2.5 PPG, 5.6 MPG, 38.3 FG%).

30. T.J. McConnell — The return of Ish Smith pretty much stole T.J. McConnell’s thunder, but the Philadelphia 76ers‘ rookie is still averaging 6.1 points, 4.5 assists, 3.3 rebounds and about 15 hustle plays a night. Considering he went undrafted and had to scrap for everything he got, McConnell is an example of what hard work can do, even if he’s basically playing for a D-League team.

More from Hoops Habit

29. Jerian Grant — The New York Knicks are 28-40, there are only 14 games left…and Kurt Rambis is still starting two 30-year-old geezers in the backcourt? Rough break for rookie Jerian Grant, who hasn’t gotten the developmental season he needed. Grant is averaging 4.8 points and 2.3 assists in a meager 15.5 minutes per game, posting woeful .370/.175/.804 shooting splits.

28. Axel Toupane — Welcome, Axel Toupane! In the first six games of his NBA career, the Frenchman signed to two 10-day contracts has wasted no time establishing himself as a decent rotation player, averaging 4.3 points in 13.2 minutes per game and shooting 37.5 percent from three-point range for the Denver Nuggets.

27. Mitch McGary — A glance at Mitch McGary’s numbers this season (1.2 PPG, 0.9 RPG, 3.5 MPG, 19 games) probably suggests he’s far too high up this list, but I’m full team #FreeMitchMcGary. In a loaded Oklahoma City Thunder frontcourt, McGary has been relegated to bench duty, but as a rookie last year, he posted a promising 6.3 points and 5.2 rebounds in 15.2 minutes per game. Don’t sleep on McGary for the future.
