The Atlanta Hawks have one of the more complete teams in the NBA. They move the ball exceptionally well, play strong team defense, have an elite interior, and overload positions with talented and selfless players.
Joe Johnson’s contract may have left a sour taste in the mouths of Hawks fans, but he’s exactly what Atlanta needs.
The Hawks move the ball well and play as a team, but they don’t have many players who can consistently operate in isolation. The regular season statistics look respectable, but when postseason games get physical and shooters can’t get open, isolation scorers become incomparably valuable.
They call him ISO Joe for a reason.
He’s lost a step athletically, but Johnson’s size, strength, and creativity still enable him to get to the basket. He won’t take over games in the way he used to, but when Atlanta needs a quick bucket in isolation, Johnson can be the player who gets it for them.
