2016 NBA Rookie Ladder: Jahlil Okafor Making A Comeback?
7. D’Angelo Russell, Los Angeles Lakers
Russell has been in and out of these rankings since the start of the season let alone all over the place within them. His play’s been limited by his head coach Byron Scott but now it seems Scott’s ready to let him off the leash.
After being a contributor off the bench for most of the season so far it seems as if Russell is getting his chance as a starter for the remainder of the year and I couldn’t be any happier for him.
When you watch Russell’s game you don’t see too many holes. Sure he needs more consistency but other than that the tools to dominate are there. He can pull-up from outside, finish at the rim and make plays for others. Once he gets more comfortable playing defense against other NBA point guards his value for the Lakers will soar.
His game is ready for the bright lights of Los Angeles, and I’m glad we’re finally getting to see what he’s truly made of.
