Milwaukee Bucks

The Milwaukee Bucks are a wild card team, the type that nobody knows what will happen. One thing can be sure: The Bucks are at least surveying the trade market. Michael Carter-Williams and Greg Monroe could be on the move, according to the Journal Times‘ Gery Woelfel. The Bucks were a playoff team last year, and their BLANK 21-32 record signals that they could be heading towards the lottery.

They made a splash in free agency by signing Monroe to a three-year deal and as HoopsHabit’s Phil Watson points out, it may have been a mistake because head coach Jason Kidd has never had success with a traditional, low-post center. The Bucks are the second youngest team in the NBA, so there should be some growing pains. There’s no need to panic for the Bucks, who need to address their defensive issues and lack of three-point shooting.

  • It’s not wise, in my opinion, to break up the culture the Bucks have started. They have a young core with Khris Middleton and Giannis Antetokounmpo, who are both under team control for at least three years. Jabari Parker is still adapting to the pace of the NBA due to suffering a season-ending injury early last season, so there is a learning curve for the young Bucks.

Making a trade just to make a trade would be the wrong move for Milwaukee. They have a young team and own all of their draft picks, so moving forward they are in a good spot. They could have up to $20 million in cap space this upcoming offseason to address their defensive issues and there-point shooting woes.

If the Bucks do decide to make a deal involving Monroe, which is against the advice of former front office executive Bobby Marks, they could package him with Jerry Bayless or O.J. Mayo to maximize their return. The Bucks have enough pieces to make a play for Blake Griffin, if he is made available within the next week.

Expect the Bucks to actively shop Bayless, Mayo and Greivis Vasquez, who has a no-trade clause. All three players are on expiring contracts and could help a contending team. But the Bucks may not get a player valuable enough to pull the trigger on a deal. The Bucks need to improve defensively and their three-point shooting if they decide to be active in trade discussions.
