Minnesota Timberwolves

The Minnesota Timberwolves are a young team that is learning on the fly. They have two cornerstone pieces that were both selected No. 1 overall in their respective drafts. Karl-Anthony Towns and Andrew Wiggins have a bright future with the Wolves.

There shouldn’t be a lot of change expected from the Wolves. Tayshaun Prince and Andre Miller are the only expiring contracts on the team and it is well-known by now that Kevin Martin is the only player whom the Wolves are actively shopping.

Martin is owed $7.3 million next season if he opts in with his player option. That player option is one of the biggest concerns for teams wanting to trade for him. If they can move Martin, the Wolves need to get a three-point shooter in return. They are the worst three-point shooting team in the league.

Three-point shooting isn’t hard to come by in today’s NBA, so that may hurt their chances of trading Martin. Aside from him, though, the Wolves may try to move the often-injured Nikola Pekovic, but it would be a surprise if there were any takers. Pekovic is owed $23.7 million over the next two seasons, which is a lot to pay a center who has never played more than 65 games in one season and has only played 43 games in the last two seasons.

The priority for the Wolves needs to be moving Martin and getting some type of return for him, even if it’s an expiring contract. If the Wolves can acquire a three-point specialist, then it’s even better. But those need to be the two focal points for the Wolves at the deadline.
