Detroit Pistons

The Detroit Pistons are in a unique situation, where their trade assets don’t match what they need for a desired player. Of course Brandon Jennings is on an expiring contract and could be moved, but his value has dropped due to poor play in return from his Achilles injury that kept him out for 11 months.

The Pistons are in the heat of the Eastern Conference playoff race, and need extra firepower. While their defense has tanked in recent games, they need the most help offensively. The Pistons have expressed interest in forward Ryan Anderson, according to ESPN’s Zach Lowe. Anderson excelled under Pistons head coach Stan Van Gundy when they were together in Orlando, but he may be more of a free agent target this summer.

Detroit had also expressed interest in Nets’ forward Thaddeus Young, but Young’s wife was outspoken on not wanting to move to Detroit, according to MLive.com. That circles back to possibly dealing Jennings. But Van Gundy has been adamant about not trading him unless the return can help the team win now.

Unfortunately for the Pistons, he’s the most valuable asset that they would be willing to trade. The Pistons could end up trading Steve Blake, whose contract expires following this season, or Joel Anthony, who has a non-guaranteed contract for next season, but those would be minor deals.

Unless the Pelicans decide to move Anderson for Jennings, or the Nets can convince Young’s wife to move to Detroit, it appears as if the Pistons will be forced to stay where they are at. Though plenty of teams have expressed interest in Jennings, there may not be a deal out there that would improve the bench. The Pistons may end up staying quiet at the trade deadline, even after all of the trade talks.
