Cole Aldrich

How quickly the season has changed for Cole Aldrich.

When the season began, Aldrich was racking up DNP-Coach’s Decisions like Aldrich picks up fouls when he does play (6.9 fouls per 36 minutes).

Now, Aldrich has played well enough to justify the Clippers giving Josh Smith away to a divisional rival for nothing. In mostly limited minutes, Aldrich has seen a much-needed breakthrough for the Clippers.

Over his last 15 games, Aldrich is averaging 18.2 points, 11.3 rebounds, 3.0 assists, and 2.5 blocks per 36 minutes. Of course, Aldrich wouldn’t be putting up those numbers if he were given DeAndre Jordan’s minutes, but the point is that he’s been giving the Clippers some really good minutes as of late. Aldrich’s Player Efficiency Rating of 20.6 for the season shows how efficient Aldrich has been when he’s on the floor (the league average is set at 15.0).

Depth at the center position is always needed and Aldrich has been a great backup center this season.

Like Johnson, Aldrich has a player option for next year that will in all likelihood be declined so he can earn a bigger contract than the minimum deal that he’s on. Also like Johnson, the contract hurts his trade value because he’ll be an unrestricted free agent in July if he declines his player option as expected.
