2. Steve Nash

Stats with Nowitzki:

  • PPG: 13.7
  • RPG: 2.9
  • APG: 6.9
  • FG%: 45.8%
  • 3P%: 40.9%
  • Games Played: 408

Dirk Nowitzki only played with one superstar operating in the prime of his career and that was Steve Nash. Though Nash had his best career seasons in Phoenix, he had other great seasons with Dallas, like 2002-03 and 2003-04.

Nash and Nowitzki created the first few signature seasons of Mark Cuban’s ownership. While the pair was intact in Dallas, they had three of the best offensive ratings of all-time: 110.7 (2002-03), 112.1 (2003-04) and 112.2 (2001-02).

Throughout those three seasons, Nash only missed four games while averaging 16.7 PPG and 7.9 APG. He also shot 47.2 percent from the field, 42.4 percent from three and 90.4 percent from the free throw line, which was just a teaser for the four 50-40-90 seasons he would go on to have with the Suns.

Throughout their time together, Nowitzki and Nash managed to bring Dallas back to relevancy after a terrible stretch of seasons in the 1990’s. In 2000-01, they led the Mavs back to the playoffs for the first time in a decade. In 2002-03, they helped the team reach a record of 60-22, which is second-best in franchise history, and capped it off with a run to the Western Conference Finals.

Though Dirk Nowitzki certainly looked like he was set for a great career, Steve Nash helped him elevate himself to the next level and set up a career of dominance for the years to come.
