The Pelicans remain in the depth of the Western Conference with a 10-21 record due to a sluggish start of the season, but they have recently shown signs that they could possibly turn it around and make some type of push to have a respectable season. Heck, they are only four games out of the playoff picture despite their horrific record, so if they can get it together before the All-Star break and flirt with a .500 record, they will be in good shape for the second half of the season.
Anthony Davis had a big week where his highest-scoring game came against the Heat on Christmas. Davis carried the Pelicans as he posted 29 points, 15 rebounds, and three blocks.
The Pelicans went 2-2 on the week, escaping with wins against Portland and Houston. It still remains to be seen if they will end up making a deal for Phoenix Suns PF Markieff Morris as the rumor mill has been pointing to. Either way, if the Pelicans can make a deal to supply Davis with some shooting around him, it would open up the floor.
Besides Ryan Anderson, no one on this Pelicans’ roster is a true threat from deep, meaning that opposing defenses can pack the paint to make it more difficult for Davis. It will be interesting to see if he can bring the Pelicans back into the playoff picture in the Western Conference.
