Marc J. Spears of Yahoo! Sports recently released a report revealing the Los Angeles Clippers’ interest in making a trade. The players named in the bulk of the report were the embattled Josh Smith and Lance Stephenson.

Not much attention has gone to this tidbit:

"The Clippers have also been open to trading guard Jamal Crawford since the offseason, sources told Yahoo."

That’s quite the development.

Jamal Crawford, 35, is one of the most unique players in the NBA. He’s essentially the basketball version of baseball’s designated hitter, performing with a solitary focus on putting points on the board.

That one-dimensional approach may sound detrimental, but Crawford has won two Sixth Man of the Year awards with this developed approach. The most recent of the two was a not-so-distant 2013-14, when Crawford put up 18.6 points per game.

His efficiency has been lackluster in 2015-16, but it’s worth noting that he put up 32 points on December 5, and tallied 18 points and seven assists on December 7—both wins—in two strong and recent displays of his value to a contender.
